Founder of Starwoven Willow & Homeschool ICU
Hi, I am Sara, founder of Starwoven Willow and Homeschool ICU.
I have been married to my husband, David, for 15 years, and together we have spent the last several years homeschooling our daughters while building a life that works for our family.
Like many homeschool parents, I did not start this journey because I had all the answers. I started because I wanted something different for my children, and over time I discovered that homeschooling is not just about curriculum. It is about creating a life where learning, family, and childhood can all exist together.
For the past five years, I have been homeschooling, designing curriculum, creating planners, building project-based learning experiences, and helping families find practical ways to make homeschool fit real life.
What I love most is not creating lessons. It is helping parents see the big picture.
Helping them realize they are not behind. Helping them build a homeschool that works with their family's schedule, goals, challenges, and season of life.
Starwoven Willow and Homeschool ICU grew from that passion. I wanted to create tools that help families stop feeling overwhelmed and start feeling confident about the path they are already on.
When I am not working on Starwoven, you will usually find me spending time with my family, dreaming up new ideas, creating learning experiences, drinking too much coffee, or hanging out with our five dogs.
And yes... if you have met Willow, you have probably already figured out who my favorite is. She was the inspiration behind Starwoven Willow, Willow's Desk, and the friendly Willow guide you will find throughout our platform.
My hope is that every family who visits Starwoven feels seen, supported, and encouraged.
Because learning matters. But so does living. And I believe a good homeschool should make room for both.
Our story
Homeschool ICU was born during one of the hardest seasons our family has ever faced.
Several years ago, our youngest daughter began experiencing health challenges that left us searching for answers. Between doctor appointments, testing, uncertainty, and trying to care for our family, homeschooling suddenly felt much heavier than it had before.
We were not just trying to teach math and reading. We were trying to manage real life.
We were balancing medical concerns, work, household responsibilities, and the constant question every homeschool parent eventually asks: “How am I supposed to fit all of this in?”
During that season, building lesson plans, organizing curriculum, and creating schedules felt overwhelming. Not because we did not care about our children’s education, but because life was already asking so much of us.
Thankfully, today our family is doing well. But that experience stayed with me.
It reminded me that many homeschool families are carrying things no planner ever asks about. Health concerns. Financial stress. Job changes. New babies. Family emergencies. Caregiving responsibilities. Grief. Burnout. Life.
That is where Homeschool ICU began. Not because homeschool parents need another curriculum. Not because they need another complicated system. But because sometimes they need someone to look at everything on their plate and help them build a plan that actually fits the life they are living.
The name
Homeschool ICU stands for two things.
Sometimes a homeschool truly does need a little intensive care.
But more importantly: Homeschool, I See You.
I see the parent trying to make learning happen between appointments.
I see the family juggling co-ops, sports, work schedules, and real life.
I see the homeschool parent lying awake at night wondering if they are doing enough.
